About Platbook AICP

Platbook AICP is a small, independent study site for the AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) exam, run by the team that builds an AICP prep app; it has no tie to the American Planning Association (APA), and nobody here writes, scores or sees the exam itself.

Who runs this site

The site is made by a small team that writes practice material for professional certification exams, the planning exam among them. There is no named expert with a stack of letters here; we would rather show the work than vouch for it. Every question explains its answer, and every fact that changes year to year carries a date and a link to APA.

There are no ads, no sponsored posts and no affiliate links. The site exists to let you test yourself for free and, if the format suits you, to point you to our app, which carries the full question bank. The 60-question practice test works without it.

How the questions are written and checked

The practice questions come from the bank inside our app, more than 1,000 items. The bank was reviewed line by line in September 2026, and only reviewed items appear on this site. The review asks the same four things of each one:

  1. Right domain

The item belongs to one of the nine domains of the current exam outline, dated December 9, 2021, and stays in it. Domain weights are the only weights we use; APA publishes none below that level.

  2. One defensible answer

Exactly one correct option and three distractors a working planner could plausibly pick: a neighboring court case, the right step in the wrong order, the rule that applies to a different actor.

  3. A note on every option

The correct answer says why it is correct. Each wrong answer says what specifically makes it wrong, because that is where most of the learning happens.

  4. Current sources only

Ethics items are checked against the 2022 AICP Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, not the 2016 version. Law items are checked against case law as it stands in 2026, so superseded rulings are not taught as current.

What you will not find here

  • Questions billed as “real” or “actual” exam items. Ours are written to the outline; the exam’s content is confidential and we have never seen it.
  • A passing score as a number or a pass rate. APA reports a scaled score and publishes neither, so we do not guess.
  • An undated fee or exam window. Those change, so we date them and link to APA’s certification pages, which are the source to trust on the day you apply.
  • AICP described as a license. It is a voluntary certification; New Jersey’s Professional Planner license is a separate thing.

Independence

Take the practice with you

The AICP app keeps working through the nine domains on your phone, with the reasoning for every option after you answer.
